Why a lunar calendar?

Staying with the feeling that everything is changing all of the time,
predictable patterns enable us to build meaningful relationships.

Lunar calendars have been in continuous use for thousands of years. Ours is intended for people who want to step off the treadmill of endless growth. We seek meaningful relationships with the cycles of the natural world. We are not looking for lucky days to maximize our production.

As we journey around a month we are traveling through different terrain as space and time expand and contract, rise and fall, due to our gravitational relationships with the moon and the sun. Every cell in our bodies feels the same tidal pull that moves the oceans.

In addition to our dance with gravity the ever changing moonlight has set the tone of our nights for millions of years.

A calendar gives us a way to remember these rhythms. We associate the journey of the moon around the earth with four lunar seasons. The order is different than the solar seasons. The new moon brings spring, which is followed by winter, then fall, and finally summer.

Spring is the blue green dragon of the east that brings renewal and fresh growth. Winter is the black tortoise of the north that emerges from mystical beginnings with practical gifts. Fall is the white tiger of the west that protects us as we continue on our journey. Summer is the red bird of the south that warms us as we enjoy the bounty we have gathered and prepare for the next cycle.

Attachment to frozen thought patterns is the biggest demon in most people’s lives. Resonating with natural cycles dissolves these frozen patterns and restores our naturally variable rhythms. Totemic animals help us resonate with the energetic feeling of each day and season.

There is guardianship in living in resonance with others and with the moon. It gives you a place to stand when you need to respond to events. Since everything in the universe co-creates itself through mutual resonance it also enables you to create a sense of belonging.

On each day you do what you have to do, but you also keep your head up and eyes open for opportunities to resonate with the energies of the day.

In addition to the lunar calendar a 12 day solar cycle is included. This can be used to supplement the lunar calendar.
